What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit He caused to live in us envies intensely? But He gives us more grace. My name is Gary Moates. When I heard the above words of Jesus’ half-brother in my first session receiving biblical counseling, God began the process of transforming my heart and life. I now have a passion for helping others know that God, through His word, speaks truth into their hearts, just as He has done, and continues to do, with me. There are no problems that we experience with which the Bible does not deal. God’s word is as relevant today as it was over 2000 years ago.

I am a Certified Biblical Counselor (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Riley Center and the Biblical Counseling Institute).

The areas to which I devote special attention in counseling are couples pre-marital and marital issues, alcohol and drug abuse/dependency/addiction, lust/sexual issues (including adultery, pre-marital sex, pornography, obsessions and compulsions), anger issues, “love addiction”, and fear of man/“codependency”. I counsel in our Fort Worth and Bedford offices.

As Director of the Metroplex Mediation division of Metroplex Counseling, I am also a Christian mediator-conciliator-attorney trained by Peacemaker Ministries and have 37 years of experience in law practice. I am a certified mediator and qualified for court appointment by Dispute Resolution Services of North Texas, Inc. Mediations are conducted in our Fort Worth, Bedford and Frisco offices.

I have been trained as a Redemption Group leader by Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington and lead men's and couples' biblical counseling groups.

I am an Equipped to Counsel graduate. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Texas at Austin and my J.D. degree is from the University of Houston.
