The Association of Biblical Counselors helps you apply the gospel to all of life as a Certified Biblical Counselor through our ABC Certification process!
The Association of Biblical Counselors exists to encourage, equip and enrich all believers everywhere to live and counsel the Word, applying the Gospel to the whole experience of life. One of the ways we do that is by offering an ABC Certification for pastors, lay leaders and professional counselors alike. While promoting the Word of God as the supreme source wherein healing truth may be found, ABC offers continuing education, training and certification to equip men and women in everyday, face-to-face ministry and soul care.
Available in three levels of training, the ABC Certification provides a consistent standard and process for training biblical counselors who identify and share ABC’s paradigm and philosophy of counseling. This includes training, exams, collaboration, observation, supervision and continuing education. Even more, certification provides a culture of accountability unlike any other means. The Association of Biblical Counseling has three levels of certification to equip hundreds of thousands of men and women in how to apply the Gospel to all of life, whether in a counseling session, in living rooms or coffee shops.
Our Level 1 Basic Certification through the Association of Biblical Counselors is awarded to those who have completed all Level 1 training requirements set forth by ABC. This level of study involves 9 to 10 months of case study training, class-room training, online learning environments and the opportunity to complete our Equipped to Counsel material as you learn the basics of soul care.
Our Level 2 Intermediate Certification involves a one-year apprenticeship within a local ministry setting, in which 100 hours of training and counseling experience are required. This level of certification is much more practical as you have the opportunity to observe and be observed by your approved ABC Training Leader, sitting with men and women, developing and caring for souls as the Lord has specifically called and equipped you to care.
Finally, our Level 3 Advanced Certification is awarded to individuals who have completed the requirements of advanced training through other biblical counseling ministries such as completing a counseling degree through our current approved affiliates like the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation, Southern Seminary or the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. This advanced certification is our attempt in acknowledging and maintaining healthy affiliations to other organizations doing excellent work in the area of biblical counseling.
