ABC’s Portrait Series was developed to help people catch the vision of the beauty of God’s plan for various life issues. In counseling and ministry we find ourselves constantly trying to describe what it means to be a Godly husband, or parent, or what Biblical communication should look like. ABC’s Portrait series help paint a word picture based on composites of Scripture on the particular topic. Supporting scriptures are listed at the bottom for further study.
CREATIVE USES: The Portraits can be used when teaching a particular subject in your small group, in a counseling session, as homework, or to generate discussion in your family or group.
Several uses in counseling and ministry include:
• Have a person read a particular Portrait out loud and prayerfully commit to doing what it says.
• Have a husband read the wife one first and visa versa. After they agree that they would love to have a spouse like the one presented in the Portrait, have them read their own and go over their responsibilities.
• Have a person read a Portrait and evaluate him/herself. The Portraits give a vision for the overall goal you are working toward in counseling.
• Have a person post the Portrait on their mirror and pray through different portions each day asking God to accomplish this picture in them.
• Have a person use different color highlighters to go through a Portrait and indicate strong and weak areas.
USAGE POLICY: These resources are for use by current Association of Biblical Counselors members only. They may not be posted on a website, sold, altered, or reproduced. We discourage photocopying because we want to maintain the quality look of the materials. Photocopying may be more convenient than printing for larger groups and is acceptable if a high quality is maintained.
