The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body — whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
In an effort to further the vision and commitment of the Association of Biblical Counselors to engender biblical counseling in the local church and the professional community, ABC is launching the Biblical Counseling Network. This network will serve as a database of churches and individuals who are dedicated to Jesus Christ, the eternal message of the Gospel, and who take seriously the work of biblical counseling.
In recent history, when people have suffered from mental or relational troubles, it has been the norm to first contact an outside licensed mental health professional or treatment facility without much awareness of the counseling philosophy embraced by the facility or individual. Or if the local church was contacted, a quick referral was made to a mental health professional or program that may not ascribe to a biblical model of change. ABC has developed the BCN in hopes that when such issues arise, the first place people will contact (with confidence they will receive effective, loving care) is the Church of Jesus Christ or a professional counselor who will offer a genuine biblical approach to change and transformation.
