I consider myself a biblical counselor. Some may disagree after reading this blog…but I am willing to stand corrected and learn. I have for some time opposed integration in counseling, and in a very real sense I still do. However, I have far too often made rash judgments about institutions and persons who’s counseling has been deemed integrated in their approach without looking more deeply into what exactly that means in a particular case. How you define the term integration seems to make all the difference as to whether it is theological error or good practice.
It will not take long, when counseling within the realm of family dynamics, to encounter the concepts of enablement, entitlement and boundaries. Whether you are a counselor or not these words are prevalent in our culture. They are, however, words that can be confusing, particularly due to their misuse.
<p> This is my third and final post on authority. Personally, I find writing on topics like this both challenging and helpful in understanding the many times I feel defeated and overwhelmed amidst the seemingly constant barrage of spiritual attack. We will look specifically at how our posture to authority is linked to spiritual dynamics. I propose that failure to submit to authority is one of the primary ways we open ourselves up to defeat when spiritually attacked.</p>
